Selling Your Home? Clean Your Windows!

Selling

Considering Putting your house for sale? An important piece of advice I can give you - Make sure you get your windows cleaned! It makes a huge difference in how quickly your home sells and for how much!  Many people don’t realize that cleaning their home’s windows greatly increases the speed at which it sells, and the offers you may get on the home.

Realtors Agree that Clean Windows Make a Difference

This is a well known real estate secret, “the first thing on your list should be washing your windows”.  It is true that brighter homes sell faster and beautifully cleaned windows help the sun shine in.  You may also want to consider removing dark window treatments and make sure you dust the rooms. This helps the room feel larger and more airy.  According to Money Magazine, After surveying 2000 real estate agents, the number one improvement that generates the best return on investment is window cleaning! Think about it. Its easy to do and your return on investment is great!

Curb Appeal

Another thing to consider is curb appeal. According to the National Association of Realtors, curb appeal sells 49% of all houses. A good first appearance of a home can add up 10% to the value of the home.  Remember, you never get a second chance to make a first impression, so be sure that the first glimpse a person — or potential home buyer! — gets of your house leaves a lasting impact.

Window Screens

I will caution you  that window screens can be distracting and so I recommend removing and storing them while your house is on the market. If you prefer to keep your screens on, make sure they are very clean. Give them a good wash with warm soapy water, a soft bristle brush, and a good rinse.

You should keep all of your windows clean during the entire selling process. Have the exteriors cleaned routinely until you find a buyer.  Be sure to budget for routine window cleanings, as it will definitely pay off in the long run.
